In Kamyanets-Podilsky lawyers and government representatives discussed future cooperation and how to effectively protect the rights of internally displaced persons. On March 16 a round table "Actual problems of protection of rights of IDPs" was held at the Kamyanets-Podilsky Lawyers Association.
Protection of the rights of internally displaced persons is one of the activities of the organization. According to the lawyer of the project, the most pressing issues in Khmelnytskyi region are problems of payment of targeted social assistance, pensions, as well as the problems of housing for displaced persons. It is the solution to these problems that was the aim of the efforts of the participants of the round table.

During the dialogue, experts discussed the ways to protect the rights of internally displaced persons to be the most effective: administrative (in the case of violations of the rights to appeal/submit the complaint on a higher level) or judicial (the appeal against the decision, action or inaction by the court).
Also they agreed on further cooperation. Lawyers of Legal Development Network and associate of the DRC project will provide advice to the IDPs. If a person needs a representative, they will direct the client to Kamyanets-Podilsky (or other) local centre to provide free legal aid.
“Such events are quite important, because the representatives of human rights organizations and representatives of the state system of free legal aid, and civil servants, and IDPs managed in an informal setting to discuss the problems of internally displaced persons, to find possible solutions to them”, commented one of the participants of the round table, the lawyer of the Office Anastasia Ploshchynska.
