Ukrainian sailors owing to the dishonest employer spent nearly a year in waters of Indonesia, onboard the former floating casino “Ocean Grand”. Our compatriots were provided with legal support and real help by Odesa charitable organization “Sailors Relief Fund “ASOL”.
Volunteers’ hard work is not always visible to the public. It is important to thank people who are ready to sacrifice their free time and efforts in order to work for society. For example, volunteers from Roma communities in Odessa and Uzhgorod help others by providing free legal consultations.
Odesa Roma human rights center “Social legal aid” motivates Roma youth in Odesa region to obtain higher education, and prepares young people for employment and life in community. That are the topics for discussion between “Legal Space” and organization’s head Volodymyr Kondur.
Regional Forum of civil society development was conducted on 24 April in Odessa. Among participants: representatives of public and charity organizations, members of local councils and State administrations, business companies, donor organizations. People were interested in joining efforts for enhancing Ukrainian civil society capacity.
A publication “Advocacy in action: campaigns which change local politics” describing unique experience of successful local advocacy initiatives in different spheres in different regions of Ukraine, was issued in Odesa.
150 internally replaced persons from Luhansk came to Odesa in the middle of July. Odesa could provide residence only for one third of them that is why they asked neighboring regions.
On-line legal consultations in Ukraine need improvement and further development. A round table on this topic was conducted in Odessa on 15 August 2014. More than 50 participants from different regions of Ukraine participated in the event.
The passport for Roma woman Maryna Myasnitska was being issued for more than three months due to the stubbornness of her relative and indifference of Mykolayiv officials who did not give copies of necessary documents.
