A 23-year old Roma woman from Kherson oblast will receive her first identity document

Lawyers of NGO "Skadovshchyna is my native land" help a resident of Kherson oblast obtain a passport of a citizen of Ukraine. A young woman has lived withoutidentity documentsfor 23 years. The article also provides the main legal points for registering the birth of a child and establishing the fact of birth through the court.

Ruslana Mishchenko* addressed Hola Prystan Office of the Legal Development Network. Ruslana is a Roma, residents of the Pamiatne village of Hola Prystan rayon of Kherson oblast.

The young woman told a lawyer of the NGO "Skadovshchyna is my native land Oleksii Kvyatkovsky that she had no documents confirming her identity for many years. Ruslana admitted that the lack of documents caused many serious problems to her and her family, but they cannot solve them on their own. In particular, the woman suffered from being discriminated against by the representatives of government and local self-government.

“My mother did not register my birth according to the established procedure. To date, I have neither a birth certificate nor a passport of a citizen of Ukraine, although I am 23 years old. I applied to register my birth and birth certificate, but I was denied”, Ruslana Mishchenko told.

Establishing the fact of the birth of the woman was necessary for the production of a birth certificate and passport of a citizen of Ukraine. It was necessary to do this through the court.

The lawyer of the Office helped Ruslana through demanding relevant documents from archives, hospitals and other organizations, making a corresponding application to the court, providing other necessary legal aid.

The fact of the birth was confirmed by a medical certificate about her birth and certificates from the village council. Witnesses were found.

Now, having confirmed the fact of her birth, Ruslana Mishchenko will be able to obtain the necessary documents - and then to draw up a passport of the citizen of Ukraine.

According to the head of the Office Serhii Keba, the “Skadovshchyna is my native land” NGO plans to pay special attention to legal work with the Roma from Hola Prystan rayon, because of its vulnerability the local Roma minority really needs to restore legal justice and legal protection.
