People of different nationalities of different ages and professions came to the International Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day on August 2 to commemorate the Roma who were tortured in the beginning of the Second World War. The musical poetic composition "Babi Yar. Let's live, Roma!” was presented by Roma Academic Music and Drama Theater "Romance".
Together with the Romance Theater, its organizers were Roma Program Initiative of the International Renaissance Foundation and the Amala National-Cultural Association.
The event was attended by guests from other cities and countries, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Ukraine, academics and public activists, people of art. Roma came to Kyiv from different regions of Ukraine, in particular from the east of the country where the war is now going, as well as from Zakarpattya.
At the entrance to Babi Yar, young Roma activists handed out candles and red roses to people.

Solemn procession, laying flowers, a minute of silence, speeches of the guests - all these solemn moments were alternated with musical, vocal and poetry compositions performed by the artists of the Romance Theater.

"Roma are a nation of exceptional inspiration and exceptional soul. That is why even the name of the genocide, the name of the tragedy, to recall which we have gathered here today, has such an impressive symbolic name - Black Horror, Kali Trash", said Andrii Yurash, Director of the Department of Religious Affairs and Nationalities of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

Mykhailo Tiagly, a researcher at the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies, called August 2 the date, through which Ukraine symbolically joined the European commemoration of the victims of the Genocide, but the study of this tragic history is just beginning. The scientist presented 2 thematic collections. From the first one, one can find out how many, in what places, when, how Ukrainians were murdered, they contain documents - both Soviet and Nazi. The second is a unique result of the cooperation of state and non-governmental civil society organizations, containing materials of the conference, which was held in October 2016 by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies in cooperation with non-governmental organizations, in particular the International Renaissance Foundation.
