The ignorance of the laws by one person and a failure to comply with by the other could have caused the inhabitant of Lugansk to remain without a roof over her head. Only one consultation of the lawyer of Severodonetsk office of the Legal Development Network changed the situation.
Common efforts of “Legal Space” portal and its partners – lawyers, journalists, public activists – have finally shown results. Court hearings which lasted for years between hostel’s residents and private enterprise, resulted in ruling in favor of residents. More than 500 people fought for their rights in Lviv court of appeal via Pro Bono system.
The court hearing which took place on 5 January, ended up with victory of more than 500 residents of house: the court ruled that the hostel claimed by “Patent” enterprise belongs to the state.
Administration of State institution turned off water and electricity and prohibited woman and son to use kitchen and sanitary facilities in order to evict single mother with minor child. Only lawyers defended this small family from eviction.
