Release of crew of "Green Season”

On December 26 the vessel with Ukrainian sailors onboard was arrested in Spain. Specialists of Odessa CF "Sailors Support Foundation “Assol” quickly responded to the request of the crew’s family members to help - and the situation was fixed almost for couple of days.

On December 27, 2015 the wife of one of crew members of the vessel "Green Season" addressed lawyers of CF “Assol”. The woman told that on December 26 at about noon her husband called her to report that the crew of the vessel was closed in the room and the captain and the senior assistant were taken away by police.

“At night the Green Season under the flag of Panama went to Greece. Then the crew had to fly home and the vessel had to remain for preservation. But the ship was overtaken by police of Spain and the team was detained. After conversation the husband did not get in touch any more. The phone’s on, but no one picks up”, the woman told.

She also told that they were under detention in Cartagena.

Lawyers immediately reported about the incident to representatives of diplomatic services.

On December 29 the head of the Consular Office of Ukraine in the city of Malaga (Spain) Oleg Vlasenko reported that the Ukrainian sailors were released, returned aboard the vessel and continued the voyage.

“This case once again confirmed how important the active participation of diplomatic services in such situations is”, the project manager of CF "Assol" Andriy Shevchenko noted. “The Consular Office in Malaga regularly rescues our compatriots - members of crews of world’s merchant fleet”.

On December 30 in the morning CF "Assol" received the letter from the released sailor’s mother with the following words: "... Information (about release) was confirmed by all TV channels. You can’t imagine our happiness when hearing such news! We are very much grateful to you for help…”

2015 ended successfully - with the release of the crew of "Green Season"! During the year our organization received inquiries from 805 sailors of 132 vessels. We are continuing our activity aimed at protecting the rights of the Ukrainian sailors”, Andriy Shevchenko noted.
