The development of free legal aid system in the rural communities of Lebedin region

The round table session on the topic “The development of free legal aid system in the rural communities of Lebedin region” has been conducted in the central regional library. It was initiated by the regional community “Informed choice of the people” (head S. Dronik) with the participation of village heads, heads of structural departments of regional state administration and regional law department.

To evaluate the system problems and legal needs of rural community residents, as well as modern state of providing free legal aid to the vulnerable, the problems of free legal aid in Lebedin region, work with appeals in Lebedin region, community’s participation in developing the system of free legal aid, changes in land and property legislation of Ukraine were discussed.

Now free legal aid is being provided: many authority bodies have public bureaus, consultation offices. People can obtain free legal aid in public offices developed by law departments, as well as mobile consultation offices where specialists from law authorities work.

Non-state organizations which provide free legal aid, such as Community Law Centers established by International Renaissance Foundation, make significant contributions as well. They provide free primary legal aid, conduct educational events, and informational campaigns to protect community rights in 15 regions of Ukraine

The system of providing free primary legal aid will be formed and improved taking into account the experience of public offices, community law centers, legal clinics and other organizations which provide free primary legal aid.
