Nearly half of Transcarpathian Roma has no identity documents through conflicts of laws

According to unofficial data, more than 100 thousand Roma live in Zakarpattya. About 10 thousand Roma live in the greatest camp of Mukachevo. Despite such number and considerable time period of residence in one place, one of the greatest problems of Roma communities is absence of official documents - birth certificates and passports. According to public organizations, about 40% of Roma have no identify documents. Therefore, Roma have no nationality de facto in the country where they were born and live.

Internship in city councils: 4 months of practice resulted in breaking stereotypes

“Roma? Student of higher education institution, really?” One of young Roma, participants of the intern program in local governments had to hear such words. However, after 4 months of internship the guy heard absolutely other opinions and received the offer that at first even shocked him. Participants of the “Support of Roma Participation in Public and Socio-Economic Life” project tell about the training course, its results and conclusions drawn during practice.

Legal clinics contest

Ostroh Academy was proud to host this year’s legal clinic contest. “We spent two days in one breath” say participants and coordinators of National legal clinics Olympics, “we were all nervous but eager to start”. Serhiy Pasichnyk, dean of Ostroh Academy, welcomed participants from 16 different universities and thanked International Renaissance Foundation for its financial support to the contest.

Coordination meeting of Community Law Centers network on 2-4 April, 2015

Community Law Centers network will combine its efforts with the state in order to ensure access of people who do not have money to pay for legal services to court proceedings and rights protection. That was the main topic of coordination meeting of heads, lawyers and representatives of Coordination Center for legal aid providing which started on April 2 in Kyiv.
