Human Rights Foundation "Rozvytok" undertakes a difficult, but necessary deed – the development of active citizenship, which is aimed at understanding one’s responsibility for own social needs in the community.
Effective protection and best interests of the members of territorial communities are possible only under condition of effective cooperation of citizens and local authorities. Only in this way the management that meets the needs and expectations of citizens will be ensured. Unfortunately, even the most active citizens do not possess knowledge and skills about the ways of direct participation in solving local issues.
The main task of the Resource centre of local democracy development in Zakarpattya is to involve citizens in the decision-making process at the local level in order to have a greater impact on the introduction of social change and solving local problems.
To this end, the lawyers of the Resource centre will conduct lectures, seminars and workshops on the local democracy development. Citizens will be also able to receive free legal aid and advice on matters relating to participation in the decision-making process at the local level: the creation of community organizations, condominiums, analysis of local normative acts regulating the exercise of the right to public hearings, local initiative, General meeting of the citizens, and conducting public oversight of the activities of local authorities.
The Resource centre is a structural unit of the Human Rights Foundation "Rozvytok" located in Mukachevo.
The opening of the Resource centre for local democracy development is dedicated to the European Local Democracy Week, which is annually celebrated in Ukraine according to the presidential Decree of Ukraine "About the European Local Democracy Week".
