In Kherson region volunteers, public activists and authorities form a network of centers for aid to ATO combatants and their families.
On March 16 during the seminar meeting with participation of representatives of the Center for aid to ATO combatants at RSA and the Centers at district administrations discussed questions of functioning of these establishments, their coordination with other structures and current plans of work.
“The main goal of our centers is to provide the qualified help to fighters and their families. Therefore, I am happy to see that the majority of districts in Kherson regions cope with this work and cooperate with regional and settlement councils. The network should be created through joint efforts in Kherson region”, the coordinator of the Center for aid to ATO combatants at RSA Natalya Vozalovska noted.
Also issues of psychological rehabilitation and adaptation of ATO participants, the solution of legal questions the demobilized fighters ask in the Centers were considered.
"We have already visited 4 districts of the region where there were held seminars for spiritual support of fighters in order to help them overcome post-traumatic stress disorder", Andriy Kalyta, the psychologist, the chaplain of the First Ukrainian Battalion of Military Chaplains, the chairman of the board of the Center of spiritual development "The Source of Life" told. “Such meetings really help fighters. But single field consultations of experts from Kherson are insufficient. It is important that activists who could provide the emergency psychological assistance to ATO participants were prepared in districts. Or could console and support in time".
For this reason Andriy Kalyta invited people from districts who after training would be able to provide necessary psychological support to ex-combatants and their families.
Legal aid to ATO participants and their families in Kherson region is provided for two years by the Information Resource Centre "Legal Space". The head of Law Community Center "Legal space" Volodymyr Orlovsky told about functions of system of social security of ATO veterans: remunerations: compensation and adaptation, motivation. He showed that they were performed only partially. Also he told about the system problems revealed during work.
"One of the most important joint achievements of volunteers and public organizations is the trust from soldiers and their families confirmed by hundreds of addresses monthly. This trust has to be used for the solution of problems of ATO participants by joint efforts”, Volodymyr Orlovsky summed up.
One of questions considered at the seminar concerned creation of support groups and mutual aid. Such groups will unite 4 target groups – ATO participants, families of the military personnel, their children and families of the lost. Groups will allow people to self-organize for closer communication, mutual aid and psychological rehabilitation. The centers of support and mutual aid will be located on the basis of local libraries. Social workers and librarians will work with various categories.
