Irene Ballesteros (on the left) met with Natalia Bimbirayte
Observers of OSCE wanted to know about barriers to adaptation of ATO veterans in Kherson region.
On February 26 the representative of the Kherson group of special monitoring mission of OSCE in Ukraine Irene Ballesteros visited the Information Resource Center "Legal Space". She asked about the top challenges faced by the demobilized, the specificity of adaptation of ATO veterans living in the regional centers.
Director of IRC "Legal Space" Natalia Bimbirayte and the lawyer of the organization Volodymyr Orlovsky told about psychological and legal workshops for ATO veterans and their families, which were conducted in Nyzhni Sirohozy, Hornostaivka and Velyka Lepetyha, about the number and nature of consultations provided, shared their impressions. Irene thoroughly acquainted with the curriculum and wished to join the following activities.
Also, Mrs. Ballesteros asked about cooperation with local governments and authorities, including the Center for assistance to ATO participants at Kherson Regional State Administration.
It dealt with the meeting of rural sheriffs who are already working in several communities of Kherson region, shared thoughts about the involvement of ex-combatants into patrols.
Such visits became a tradition. The team of IRC "Legal Space" and partners from the “Source of Life” Foundation regularly meet with representatives of the OSCE monitoring mission as they do their best to inform the international community about what is happening in our country.
Let us remind that two public organizations, Informational Resource Center "Legal Space" (provides free primary legal aid) and the Center for spiritual development "Source of Life" (provides free psychological assistance) joined efforts for comprehensive assistance to ATO combatants and veterans. The mobilized of the first wave started addressing with the first legal challenges, when they were fired contrary to the law, so they had no chance to return to normal life after demobilization and their families remained without means of subsistence. But after the first wave of demobilization soldiers, wives and parents of those who had returned from the war began to consult a psychologist. Each month a lawyer and a psychologist receive approximately 100-150 people. Each problem is treated individually.
Training in the centers is carried out within the project "Promoting social adaptation of ATO participants and their families through the provision of psychological and legal aid", supported by International Renaissance Foundation. Other 7 psychological and legal workshops are planned.
