In February 2017 the resident of the village Pechenegi (Kharkiv region) Lilia* addressed Chuhuiv office of Legal Development Network, having difficulties with the real estate agency.
The situation is as follows. Lilia is a lonely elderly woman, who has been suffering health problems for several years. Therefore, she decided to sell her two-bedroom house and buy the one closer to the center of the village and on the lower floor.
The woman turned to the real estate agency where she was almost immediately offered a few options. The realtor took the apartment papers and when the woman chose one of the proposed options, he asked for a deposit in the amount of 3 300 USA. The old woman gave the money. The parties did not confirm the fact of the transfer of funds by any documents.
After a month, no transaction took place, so Lilia had to return to the agency to get back her documents and money. However, the agent rudely turned her down.
That is why the woman turned to Chuhuiv human rights group.
The Office coordinator Roman Likhachev immediately contacted representatives of the real estate agency to resolve the issue through mediation.
First he held a preliminary meeting with each party. At these meetings, the mediator Andrii Pekarenin was trying to figure out not only the positions of the parties, but their interests in this matter. Then the mediator arranged a joint meeting with the realtor and Lilia, which helped the parties to come to the desired solution of the problem: the agency returned to the former client the documents for the apartment and money in the sum of 3 300$ without judicial red tape.
However, if the woman did not realize that it was necessary to turn to the defenders, she could well become a victim of fraud.
